A Year in Review: A Vision to be Shared I have fond memories of my term as president; our association continues to
thrive by almost every measure. We continue to grow in total membership; we are attracting a new generation of members; they are increasingly diverse in ge- ography, gender, and industry segment; our member leadership and NACE International staff are orga- nizationally stable; and the demand for corrosion professionals is perhaps higher than ever before. It is a great time to be a corrosion professional. I have learned much about our association over the past year, and I would like to share the most im- portant thing. We all know that NACE's mission is to "Protect People, Assets, and the Environment from the Effects of Corrosion," but most of us do not feel it in our daily activities. Those new to NACE tend to ]VLMZ[\IVL \PM WJ^QW][ JMVMÅ\[ WN W]Z I[[WKQI\QWV# these include professional development (e.g., train- QVO IVL KMZ\QÅKI\QWV VM\_WZSQVO IVL NMTTW_[PQX RWJ

While attending one of many conferences last year, I met individuals that were directly affected by industrial accidents. It made me feel that our mission at NACE is important far beyond our profession, and that we have a responsibility to serve ourselves, our employers, and anyone that might be affected by corrosion. ;QVKM Ua aMIZ PI[ MVLML 1 _W]TL TQSM \W M`XZM[[ I N]\]ZM ^Q[QWV NWZ LMTQ^MZQVO
on our mission in the hopes that others can share in it. Although NACE is already UISQVO IV QUXIK\ _M KIV N]Z\PMZ QUXZW^M Ja KWUJQVQVO KWZZW[QWV \MKPVWT- WOa KWZZW[QWV [KQMVKM IVL UIVIOMUMV\ [a[\MU[ QV W]Z XZWL]K\[ [MZ^QKM[ and ultimately our members. The core of our membership works in the area of corrosion technology, and we must continue to serve this group to the highest standard. However, we must also support our corrosion science community, because we cannot be the leading corrosion technical society without this founda-
