20 DECEMBER 2016 MATERIALS PERFORMANCE NACE INTERNATIONAL: VOL. 55, NO. 12 COMPANY NEWS Hock Wins Corrosion Control Award Photo courtesy of Penn State. The Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences (EMS) (University Park, Pennsyl - vania) selected Vincent F. Hock, Jr., FNACE, as the recipient of the 2016 GEMS Alumni Achievement Award for his influential work in protecting U.S. waters and infrastructure. During his career, Hock developed innova- tive solutions for corrosion prevention and control and integrated security water sys- tems for the U.S. Department of Defense (Arlington, Virginia). He also developed aquatic nuisance control for Asian carp, an invasive fish species, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Chicago District (Chicago, Illinois), and he provided consulting ser- vices to the U.S. Justice and State Depart- ments (Washington, DC). After the terrorist attacks of Septem- ber 11, 2001, officials at The Pentagon (Arlington, Virginia) enlisted Hock to lead the development of safe and secure pota- ble water systems worldwide. He devel- oped dynamic modeling and simulation tools and counter-terrorism measures for mitigating chemical and biological threats to the water supply. Hock recently per- formed a number of corrosion-related fail- ure analyses, including the corrosion of hydronic heating and cooling water sys- tems for the U.S. State Department and the corrosion of aluminum bulkheads in the Ohio River. He is a member of NACE Inter- national and a NACE Fellow. Emerson to Acquire Permasense Photo courtesy of Emerson. Emerson (St. Louis, Missouri) agreed to acquire Permasense (Horsham, United Kingdom), a provider of nonintrusive corro- sion monitoring technologies for the off- shore and onshore oil production, refining, chemical, power, pipelines, metals, and mining industries. Permasense's monitor- ing systems use sensor technology, wireless data delivery, and advanced analytics to continuously monitor for metal loss from corrosion or erosion in pipes, pipelines, or vessels. Additionally, Emerson says, the sys- tems can deliver high-integrity data from very harsh environments. The Permasense product line will become part of Emerson's Rosemount portfolio of measurement and analytical technologies. It will complement Emerson's Roxar intrusive corrosion moni- toring and nonintrusive sand management systems, while also strengthening Emer- son's pervasive sensing applications that provide customers with a more complete view of operations and facilities. American Innovations Adds External Corrosion Products American Innovations (AI) (Austin, Texas) acquired the external corrosion products division of MSES Consultants, Inc. (Clarks- burg, West Virginia). With the acquisition,
