25 NACE INTERNATIONAL: VOL. 56, NO. 4 MATERIALS PERFORMANCE APRIL 2017 Alberta, Canada), a provider of oil and gas pipeline inspection services, for a total of $4.6 million—$3.45 million in cash and $1.15 million in restricted shares of Pure. Since 2006, E-MAC has licensed PureHM's Spectrum XLI technology for its indirect inspection surveys, including cathodic protection. In addition, E-MAC provides pipeline owners with comprehensive cor- rosion prevention programs that include consulting, system management, and associated product sales. Through the acquisition, PureHM says it has signifi- cantly improved its position within the North American pipeline corrosion sector, and become an end-to-end solution pro- vider with the added benefit of leveraging the company's technologies and innova- tive products. CVD Equipment Purchases Tantaline Chemical vapor deposition systems pro- vider CVD Equipment Corp. (Ronkonk- oma, New York) purchased certain assets formerly owned by Tantaline A/S (Nord- borg, Denmark). The assets include all of Tantaline's intellectual property. Formed in 2007 as a spin off from The Danfoss Group, Tantaline A/S established itself as a producer of tantalum-treated parts for corrosion resistance. The group's tantalum chemical vapor technology, Tantaline treatment, is used to create a tantalum surface alloy on parts such as valves, fit- tings, autoclaves, process chambers, flow reactors, fasteners, mixers, flowmeters, and medical devices, as well as other parts that are prone to corrosion in harsh envi- ronments. In hot, corrosive acidic environ- ments with temperatures above 150 °C, parts given the treatment are able to per- form nearly at the level of solid tantalum parts, according to CVD officials. BASF Acquires Chemetall Surface Treatment Business Global chemicals group BASF (Ludwig- shafen, Germany) recently completed its acquisition of Chemetall, the global sur- face treatment business formerly owned by Albemarle (Baton Rouge, Louisiana). The purchase price was $3.2 billion. According to company officials, BASF is aiming to combine its knowledge in chem- istry and coatings applications with Chemetall's expertise in surface treatment. The combined businesses will benefit from enhanced global infrastructure, scale, and market access—thereby driving new growth opportunities. Chemetall develops and manufactures customized technology and system solutions for surface treat- ment. Its products protect metals from corrosion, facilitate forming and machin- ing, allow parts to be optimally prepared for the painting process, and ensure proper coating adhesion. For calendar year 2015, Chemetall's sales were $845 million. 2017 MESA ™ 2017 MESA ™ ™ 2017 MESA All Rights Reserved.
