26 APRIL 2017 MATERIALS PERFORMANCE NACE INTERNATIONAL: VOL. 56, NO. 4 Updated Handheld Infrared Oil Analyzer Spectro Scientific (Chelmsford, Massa- chusetts), one of the world's largest suppli- ers of oil, fuel, and processed water analy- sis instrumentation and software, introduced the fifth version of its Fluid- Scan portable infrared oil analyzer tech- nolog y. This chemistry analysis enables users to determine when oil is no longer fit for use due to liquid contamination or other degradation. The latest version includes a variety of new features that improve performance and enhance user experience. It lowers limits of detection on total water measurement for turbine oils, while more than doubling the size of the oil library to facilitate better analysis. Meanwhile, measurement stability is rein- forced through a new infrared back- ground measurement function. Spectro also modified key functions such as data viewing and matching to increase analy- sis speed by four times. Tel: +1 978-431- 1120, web site: spectrosci.com. Ultra-Weatherable Marine Gelcoats Ashland (Covington, Kentucky) intro- duced its Maxguard SCP, a new line of high-performance marine gelcoats that deliver many benefits including beauty, weatherability, and long-lasting depend- ability for consumers and premium boat builders. "The exterior appearance of a boat is critical to boat owners who typi- cally invest a lot of resources and many man-hours maintaining their vessel to keep it looking beautiful," says Ryan Wilkins, marine gelcoat product manager for Ashland in North America. The line of PRODUCT SHOWCASE Crushed Glass Abrasive for Surface Preparation Strategic Materials (Houston, Texas) announced the launch of an improved air blast abrasive prod- uct, TruAbrasives, made from 100% recycled glass. The product is expected to be available in April 2017. The crushed glass abrasive was developed specifically for performance and quality through extensive blast and laboratory testing, as well as operational investments in equipment and pro- cesses. The product should be known for worker health and environmental benefits, just as its New Age Blast Media predecessor was for many years. In addition, crushed glass abra- sives do not pose the risks of free crystalline silica and toxic metal exposure. "We've always believed crushed glass abrasive is the future for the surface prepa- ration industry, and that's why we continue to invest in it," CEO Denis Suggs says.
