70 AUGUST 2018 W W W.MATERIALSPERFORMANCE.COM NACE NEWS STG Members Help Shape Industry Best Practices in Marine Industries A s announced earlier this year in Materials Performance magazine, NACE International's Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) has em- barked on a mission to update the scope statements of each of the 28 Specific Tech- nology Groups (STGs) to better align with current industry trends. In this issue, the TCC is highlighting STG 44, Marine Corro- sion: Ships and Structures. Following are the new STG 44 scope statement and an update on STG 44's activities from Dawn Eden, STG 44 chair. STG 44, Marine Corrosion: Ships and Structures—Develop industry stan- dards and formal/informal technical information exchanges, to apply the latest technologies, and research and development in corrosion assessment, corrosion control, and corrosion miti- gation methodologies to the design, construction, in-service maintenance, and repairs for both ship hulls and machinery, and marine structures. The technologies include, but are not limited to, aspects of protective coat- ings, antifouling protocols, materials' per formance, cathodic protection, and corrosion inhibitors. Currently, STG 44 enjoys the support of almost 300 members who can engage in various activities, including participating in corrosion-related discussions and con- ference presentations, that are shared within our three Technology Exchange Groups (TEGs), and the seven (soon to be eight) Task Groups (TGs) that develop rel- evant industry standards to assist field operations personnel in their daily materi- als and corrosion management choices within the marine industry. In addition to our administrative responsibilities for the aforementioned committees, STG 44 is the sponsoring STG for two TGs and three TEGs that include related topics such as biofuels, coatings, and concrete. If you are presently a mem- ber of STG 44, "Thank You," we appreciate your contributions.
