SEPTEMBER 2018 VOL. 57, NO. 9 IN THIS ISSUE CORROSION PREVENTION AND CONTROL WORLDWIDE MATERIALS PERFORMANCE Owners of today's automobiles are rarely faced with corrosion of auto body panels, which led to high repair bills and untimely scrapping of cars in the early part of the twentieth century. Over the past 75 years, many innovations have been made by corrosion professionals to successfully mitigate the impact of corrosion. One notable innovation in the mid-1960s was the development of electrophoretic deposition of protective coatings to battle the unsightly, prolific corrosion on automotive bodies. The auto body is immersed in a bath containing charged particles, an electric field is applied, and the particles are electrodeposited onto the steel surface. This month's issue of MP includes a special section that commemorates the 75th Anniversary of NACE International. In the feature article on p. A26, roundtable panelists share their thoughts on key innovations over the past 75 years that have paved the way for today's successful corrosion mitigation.
