The conference included numerous technical tracks and more than 100 technical papers. Area & Section News Latin American Area L atinCorr 2018 was celebrated Oct 23 to 25, 2018, in the Golden Conven- tion Center of Parque Norte, Buenos Aires, Argentina. The event was hosted by the NACE International Buenos Aires Argentina Section in conjunction with the Argentine Chamber of Suppliers for the Petro-Energy Industry (CAPIPE) y EDIGAR. The event program was packed with great content that included several tracks related to coatings, integrity management, corrosion in nuclear systems, cathodic pro- tection, corrosion in reinforced concrete, sour corrosion and embrittlement in oil and gas production, surface treatments, corrosion control in oil and gas production, microbiologically influenced corrosion, corrosion in pipelines, and localized corro- sion. The conference also included three keynote lectures, one invited lecture, 108 technical presentations, and 14 poster presentations. More than 260 attendees partici- pated—156 from Argentina, 82 from other Latin-American countries (Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, and Uruguay), and 29 from other countries around the world (Belgium, Canada, Italy, Kuwait, Japan, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, the United Kingdom, and the United States). Additionally, 34 exhibitors pre- sented their technologies and corrosion solutions, providing excellent opportunities for networking meetings, technology and experience exchanges, as well as for finding solutions to industry corrosion problems in a highly professional atmosphere. The first keynote lecture was given by NACE International President Jeffrey Didas, who talked about IMPACT PLUS, a suite of corrosion management tools and resources that attracted great interest from partici- pants. Walter Vargas, associate scientist at CONICET and R&D YPF Tecnología, pre- sented the second keynote lecture on the second day of the event, titled "Microbio- logically Induced Corrosion: Shedding Some Light into a Process that Keeps Dissolving Our Structures." Raul Rebak, a researcher from Global GE, presented the third keynote lecture, "Corrosion Metallur- gy's Waterloo." The invited lecture, "Causes and Mechanisms of Localized Corrosion of Mild Steel in CO 2 /H 2 S Aqueous Environ- ments," was given by Srdjan Nes ˘ic ´, director of the Institute for Corrosion and Multi- phase Technology at Ohio University. In general, the event was a huge suc- cess, given the current economic situation in Latin America. NACE-branded events continue to attract professionals, both as attendees and as presenters, providing opportunities for sharing corrosion knowl- edge. The Buenos Aires Argentina Section was an excellent host, demonstrating great leadership and volunteerism in all phases of the event. LatinCorr 2020 will be held in Quito, Ecuador.
