An employee of KTA (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) for more than 20 years, he was vice president and corporate development business manager of KTA and previously served as the Coatings Group manager. He was responsible for the company's nationwide business development effort and served as a patient and valued mentor to staff. For the last 17 years he also enjoyed working with his wife Cindy at KTA. Rice was very active in numerous coatings and engineering-related committees and industry organizations, including NACE, SSPC, the Transportation Research Board (TRB), and others. In 2013, he was appointed to the NACE Policy Committee and was also chair of the NACE Technical Coordination Committee (TCC) Ad hoc Committee on Standards. He was a former chair of the TRB Bridge Steel Coatings Subcommittee AHD30(2), and was the convenor of the 2007 TRB Conference Coatings Session. He served as the NACE C-1 (coatings) Technology Coordinator (2008-2009), overseeing approximately 80 national standards writing and symposium developing committees.
