Like many other NACE sections, the Channel Islands has membership spread across a significant distance, in this case over 200 miles along the coast of California. Historically, most of the section's events and meetings have been toward the southern end in Ventura County. This year the board members decided to have a meeting at the northern end. Not only did they know that many dedicated members lived there, but they also wanted to include student members from the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Student Section. The invitations were met with great enthusiasm and there was quite the "buzz" even before the event. The event took place at a local favorite, Ben Franklin's Sandwiches. More than 33 people attended. There were 12 students, their faculty advisor Dave Gibbs, as well as 20 industry professionals. The conversa- tion was lively and it certainly appeared that everyone in the room had the oppor- tunity to meet one another. Toward the middle of the evening Trustee Bill Tjaden spent a few minutes talking about NACE and the Channel Island Section's plans for the year. Most importantly, it seems that at least one of the students has found employment from one of our members. The feedback from the event has been terrific and the board is elated over the turnout and response. (—Bill Tjaden) Students from the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Student Section attended the Meet 'N Greet. Sponsors shared information about their companies and employment opportunities. NACE International conducted a Coating Inspector Program Level 2 class in April 2015 in Shanghai, China, taught by NACE lead Instructor Phil Fouche (center, second row). NACE conducts hundreds of courses in all areas of corrosion control throughout the world. Continued on p. 78
