CORROSION 2016 RECAP 62 JUNE 2016 MATERIALS PERFORMANCE NACE INTERNATIONAL: VOL. 55, NO. 6 NACE Takes Annual Corrosion Conference to Canada C ORROSION 2016, NACE International's 71st annual conference held in Van couver, British Columbia, Canada, brought together more than 5,000 corrosion professionals from 64 countries for the largest meeting that focuses on preventing and mitigating worldwide corrosion. This year, the annual NACE event experienced a recordbreak ing international attendance of over 40%. Hundreds of events—technical sym posia, committee meetings, seminars and lectures, training opportunities, and social gatherings—offered a multitude of cutting edge technical and educational resources, public awareness activities, and network ing opportunities that the corrosion indus try has come to expect. The conference included a technical program with 37 technical symposia with 398 paper presentations covering all areas of corrosion control, five research sympo sia with 73 presentations, and 195 techni cal committee meetings. Timely industry issues were covered through 15 unique industry and technology tracks that fea tured discussions on corrosion monitor ing technologies, recent developments in atmospheric corrosion, hightemperature issues and materials for the process indus try, and many other topics. Numerous NACE member volun teers worked with NACE staff members to develop a week of timely and relevant events for everyone—whether the attendee was a newcomer or a veteran. Forums addressed topics such as the basics of ther malspray coatings, solutions for water and wastewater corrosion, avoiding premature coatings failures, and corrosion control for highways and bridges. The always popular Corrosion and Punishment and PHMSA Pipeline Safety forums were presented again this year in a new format. Numerous social opportunities, includ ing popular annual events such as the Opening Reception, Expo Grand Opening, and Awards Banquet, as well as the NACE Foundation's Retro Rewind event and a new workshop, Engaging Women in Leadership, provided attendees with the opportunity to spend time with colleagues and expand their network of corrosion professionals. They also had access to the largest corrosion exhibition in the world.
