TCC VICE CHAIR Khlefa Esaklul Occidental RESEARCH COMMITTEE VICE CHAIR Florent Bocher Southwest Research Institute EX-OFFICIO MEMBER CEAC Chair Peter Harkins Tinker & Rasor Welcome to the CORROSION 2017 Advance Program I am pleased to introduce the Advance Program for CORROSION 2017, your guide for navigating NACE International's 72 nd annual conference. Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, our March 2017 conference will offer the broad spectrum of corrosion-related technical, research, educational, public awareness, and networking activities that you and the corrosion industry have come to expect, as well as exciting new attractions specific to this conference. More than 200 technical and administrative meetings will be held throughout the week, enabling members to work on standards and reports, exchange technical information, and manage association business. The technical program, with 45 symposia, will feature paper presentations on a wide range of corrosion topics. New this year are symposia focused on alternating current risk assessment, monitoring, and mitigation; advances in preventing corrosion under insulation; the novel use of multielectrode systems; power industry corrosion; and more. Special forums will address such topics as the need for a safety culture in pipeline work, innovations and advances in the water industry, and an update on IMPACT, the groundbreaking study that examines the global cost of corrosion and the critical role of corrosion management throughout an organization. In addition, attendees are invited to a panel discussion where policy makers and industry leaders will address performance-based vs. prescriptive measures as they relate to regulations and standards. The accompanying NACE Expo will feature more than 400 companies displaying the latest in corrosion control products and services. In addition, the cathodic protection test field will be available on the exhibit floor for the sixth year. Corrosive Chronicles returns for the second year, featuring corrosion professionals in a theater setting who will present their experiences on corrosion incidents in the field and lessons learned. The inaugural CoatingsPro Contractor Awards will be presented during Corrosive Chronicles on Tuesday. Also new this year is the Maritime Day, a valuable opportunity to interact with NACE corrosion experts in this field and attend maritime-themed forums and exhibits. The Expo Grand Opening—the most popular event each year—will kick off the CORROSION 2017 exhibition on Monday evening just after the presentation of the 2017 MP Corrosion Innovation of the Year Awards. The CORROSION 2017 keynote speaker is Frank Abagnale, the renowned cybersecurity and fraud prevention expert. Abagnale, subject of the book and film Catch Me if You Can, will share his story and join NACE leaders in a question and answer session. As always, there are numerous social opportunities to spend time with friends and expand your network of corrosion professionals. Popular annual events include the NACE Foundation's Sunday morning NACE Race, Darrel D. Byerley Memorial Golf Tournament, and Clays for a Cause; the Sunday evening Opening Night Reception; the 30 Below event on Monday night for students and new members under 30 years of age; the NACE Foundation's Tuesday evening scholarship awards and party; and the Wednesday evening Awards Dinner. The Foundation will also host Wednesday's Corrosion: Opportunities Realized mini-camp for local high school students designed to educate and spread corrosion awareness to the next generation. Thursday's offerings include the morning workshop, "Engaging Women in Leadership." Last year's annual conference in Vancouver, Canada, was successful by every measure. I fully expect CORROSION 2017 to once again exceed the expectations and enrich the careers of more than 6,000 participants from all over the world. This program contains complete details on all you will experience and learn. I look forward to seeing you there. Sandy Williamson, NACE President, 2016-2017
