David Prior, undersecretary of state for health in the U.K. Parliament's department for business, energy, and industrial strategy, recently visited specialty graphene materi- als producer Applied Graphene Materials (Cleveland, United Kingdom) for an intro- duction to graphene and the science behind it. The company's unique and patented pro- cess for making graphene nanoplatelets was demonstrated to Prior on a tour of facilities at its innovation center in Wilton, United Kingdom. Prior was said to be par- ticularly keen to understand the challenges associated with the production of nano- platelets, the dispersion of graphene, and the speed with which the process could be scaled up. Prior spoke with William Weaver, technical director, and Neil Hindle, engi- neering director, at the company. Discus- sions involved the production and various applications of graphene in industry.
