Detroit Section Hosts Rectifier Training Pennsylvania Senator Speaks at Philadelphia Section Event Eastern Area O n May 18, 2017, the NACE Inter- national Detroit Section hosted a rectifier training event, held at the DTE Energy training facility and at- tended by Detroit and neighboring section members. The class was instructed by Don Olson of Integrated Rectifier Technologies. Olson's one-day class included presenta- tions on rectifier theory, safety, design, installation, and maintenance. Attendees performed hands-on troubleshooting of units. "Amongst our seasonal speaker pre- sentations we try and include a training day for our members," says section board mem- ber Dave Young. "This is the fifth time we've had Don come and it is always well at- tended. We recommend it to any section looking for a low-cost one-day event for their members." Olson can be contacted at email: don.olson@irtrectifier.com. (—Dave Young) O n May 3, 2017, the NACE Philadelphia Section and the Eastern Pennsylvania Corrosion Committee conducted a joint meeting. The meet- ing was held in the Williamsport area of Pennsylvania at a local fire company so that the section could attract corrosion control per- sonnel from central Pennsylvania who do not tend to come to Philadel- phia for meetings. The luncheon, hosted by the section, was prepared by the Ladies Auxiliary at the fire company. The speaker was Gene Yaw, state sena- tor for the 23rd District in Pennsylvania. Senator Yaw discussed efforts at the state level to grow manufacturing and bring industry to the region, and efforts to expand natural gas service. The senator sees the importance of protecting the pub- lic, but also acknowledges how circum- stances get in the way, especially government obstacles. He discussed the importance of fracking and gas extraction, including the need for pipelines to trans- port petroleum products and natural gas to markets. Senator Yaw attended lunch with the 50 participants and was at ease answering questions and comments. (—Dave Krause) NACE NEWS
