22 MARCH 2018 W W W.MATERIALSPERFORMANCE.COM COMPANY NEWS Pipeline Tool Build Project Suspended Image courtesy of NDT Global. Ultrasonic pipeline inspection and data analysis provider NDT Global (Dublin, Ire- land) and energy company Statoil (Stavan- ger, Norway) announced the suspension of the planned ├ůSGARD pipeline tool build project. The subsea project is described as among the largest developments on the Norwegian continental shelf. After a review of the pipeline's detailed design and the integrity requirements, the electro- magnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) technology is no longer presenting an effi- cient solution, the inspection group says. Thus, a mutual decision was reached to suspend the project. "Our engineering team has achieved outstanding results to invent, develop, and validate the technol- ogy for the direct measurement of wall thicknesses of up to 55 mm [2.2 in] in gas pipelines," says Wolfgang Schaefer, chief engineer of technology services. "This technology was applied in a multi-diame- ter tool capable of inspecting both 28-in [711-mm] and 42-in [1,067-mm] nominal diameters for the line's sizable 707-km [439.3-mi] length." However, further test- ing to prove the technology remains. NDT Global continues to service Statoil with inline inspections under a long-term agreement. U.S. Turnkey Tank Service Provider Expands Turnkey tank service provider ATS Group, LLC (Cushing, Oklahoma, USA), also known as Alliance Tank Service, acquired Willbros Tank Services from Willbros Group, Inc. (Houston, Texas, USA). The closing was completed on January 1, 2018. The expanded company will operate as Alliance Tank Service with offices in Cush- ing, Oklahoma; Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Channelview, Texas. Terms were not dis- closed. "With the acquisition of Willbros Tank Services, we are excited to be able to offer our customers expanded resources for steel tank construction and tank repair," says CEO John Allcorn. "ATS' and Willbros' individual strengths will dovetail nicely and allow us to expand workflow and widen our geographical reach."
