Sunday, April 15, 2018 CORROSION 2018 Opens with Traditional NACE Foundation Events The NACE Foundation's annual NACE Race and Darrel D. Byerley Memorial Golf Tournament provided attendees with the opportunity to participate in Sunday morning CORROSION traditions that date back several decades. NACECares Volunteers Lend a Hand to Phoenix Parks and Recreation Attendees Catch Up with Old and New Friends at the Opening Night Reception More than 40 runners gathered at historic Steele Indian School Park for the 23rd Annual NACE Race. After a busy schedule of administrative and technical meetings, about 1,500 attendees, exhibitors, and guests mingled over drinks and hors d'oeuvres, caught up with old friends, and met new contacts at the Opening Night Reception in the Phoenix Convention Center— a conference tradition that marks the close of CORROSION's opening day. About 100 golfers enjoyed a beautiful day on the golf course at TPC Scottsdale to kick off CORROSION 2018 and raise funds for the NACE Foundation, which supports scholarships, training, and workforce development in the field of corrosion mitigation. NACE International's second annual NACECares Volunteer Day took place on Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon. Over 50 volunteers joined the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation to help revamp Alkire Park and the Roland Hemond baseball field by painting a portion of a pavilion for the pool, planting trees, fixing up the baseball field, and picking up trash and debris. The goals of the event were to give back to the conference host city and offer a venue for like-minded members to be involved and network. NACE Race winners in the Men's Division were Marco De Marco, 1st Place; John Pugh, 2nd Place; and Jeff Fontaine 3rd Place. NACE Race winners in the Women's Division were Heather Groll, 1st Place; Abigail Helbling, 2nd Place; and Stephanie Biagiotti, 3rd Place. 67 MATERIALS PERFORMANCE: VOL. 57, NO. 7 JULY 2018 CORROSION 2018 RECAP
