Linking Offshore Wind Farms Could Grow Network, Lower Costs
Q A report published by the U.K. Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) (London, United Kingdom) suggests that between 11 and 18 GW of wind farm capacity could be built off Britain's KWI[\ Ja

tially larger and further offshore than existing projects. Instead of building individual connections for each development, interlinking the wind farms could lower overall construction and operating costs, allow the offshore network to grow incrementally and effi- ciently, and pave the way for a North Sea network that links Britain's offshore wind farms to other European countries. Canadian Governments Create Oil Sands Research Agreement
Q A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) be- tween the Government of Canada and the Govern- ment of Alberta promotes research that will lead to the development of new and improved oil sands tech- nologies and help reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions in the oil sands industry, which will result in a smaller environmental footprint and cre- ate new jobs for Canadians. The research will be led by Natural Resources Canada's CanmetENERGY and Alberta Innovates Technology Futures and in- cludes the collaboration of industry, academia, and other research organizations on the sustainable use of the oil sands resource. FHWA Demonstration Highlights Innovative Bridge Replacement
Q The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) (Washington, DC) and the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) hosted a demonstration of new technologies that allowed faster completion of a project to put a new bridge in place on the I-15 West Mesquite Interchange. By employing an innovative method known as accelerated bridge construction, workers utilized prefabricated elements to quickly assemble the bridge and slide it into place during WNN XMIS \ZI^MT \QUM[ \W UQVQUQbM \ZINÅK KWVOM[\QWV L]M \W KWV[\Z]K\QWV 7NÅKQIT[ NZWU UWZM \PIV state departments of transportation attended to learn PW_ \PM IL^IVKMUMV\[ KW]TL JMVMÅ\ \PMQZ [\I\M[ .WZ more information, visit www.dot.gov.
