In Memoriam NACE International Corporate Members L ongtime N A C E International member Arthur C. "Scotty" Flory passed away on March 19, 2013, at his home in Lafayette, Louisiana at the age of 88. Flory was born on January 14, 1925 in Shreveport, Louisiana, and lived the majority of his life in Houston, Texas. He resided in Lafayette for the past seven years. A veteran of the United States Navy, Flory served as a deck torpedo gunner on the battleship Tangey in the South Pacifc Theater during the time period immediately after the attack of Pearl Harbor. After discharge from the Navy, he attended Texas A&M; University, graduating in 1950 with a degree in chemical engineering. He used this education to begin a career in the sales of protective coatings for pipelines, working for the Mavor-Kelly Co. in Houston, where eventually he rose to chief executive offcer and was principle owner of the company for many years. Flory was very active in NACE. He served as NACE president in 1976-1977 and was a NACE instructor and inspector. He was among the founders of the highly acclaimed NACE Coating Inspector Program, now in its 30th year. He was on the original committee that founded the NACE Endowment in 1986, which eventually evolved into what is now the NACE Foundation. He was honored with a NACE Foundation Founder's Award in 2009. Flory was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Peggy Jean Crosby Flory, who passed away on November 30, 2012 at the age of 86. He is also preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. He is survived by sons Chris Flory (Nancy), Keith Flory (Pam), David Flory (Dale), Ray Conrad (Carol), and Jerry Conrad; daughter Claire Conrad; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
